As founders of Interviewa.com, many people naturally assume that we were talented interviewees who breezed into residency programs and specialty training without much difficulty. Nothing is further from the truth. In fact, it was through our combined wealth of epic interview failures that has inspired the birth of Interviewa.com.
Whilst we are now consultants and advance trainees in various specialties, the initial hurdles and subsequent failures we faced were life changing. We all had one common problem: we had absolutely no knowledge whatsoever when it came to interviewing. We were too focused on academic pursuits to strengthen our resume and to impress our future referees. We neglected the most important discriminator in the selection process: the interview.
Like everything else, interviews require preparation. We read every book we could get our hands on, watched every YouTube video, TED talk and spoke to many interview panels. We were exhausted at the end of this, but enlightened. We realised that successful interviewing is about technique, psychology and hard work. It is an act.
Only through practice can you build confidence. Knowledge and confidence will help you think rationally to master this performance. It gives you the ability to see beyond your perspective, to turn the tables around and see the big picture. This skill will prove useful not only in getting onto training, but in the fellowship exams.
A Service Unlike Any Other
Since our first year of operation in 2012, the results over the last four years speak for themselves – our success rate in 2015 was 70% (compared to national average of 30%). We focus on building an interviewing platform that grows over time – this can only be achieved with user contributed content with coaching input by experienced interview consultants. We leverage on the latest web technology to set many world’s first interview coaching tools to help you grow, learn and build confidence.
As a brief introduction to what we offer, Interviewa has an audio repository of answers by successful candidates to common past questions – this is the closest benchmark to what is expected in actual interviews. Our service also includes sample and past questions contributed by past candidates, a growing audiolibrary with more than 160 answers, and both virtual and face-to-face practice interview sessions. Our practice sessions focus on the following components – verbal and non verbal communication techniques, approach to difficult left field questions, vocal training and techniques to formulating methodical and mature answer frameworks. The coaches we employ each have over 15 years experience as interviewers and all previously employed by large multinationals.
Interviewa is not officially affiliated with any College, however, our services adhere to College specialty training assessment guidelines to ensure that we are providing the closest simulated interview experience to best prepare our clients for their actual day. We appreciate our audience are a savvy and informed group of people – bottom line we are providing an offering that is unique and much needed in our industry. We feel humbled that doctors throughout Australia and a growing number internationally continue to use our services despite the non-affiliation.
We take pride in our service, and work hard to ensure that our members are supported and best prepared for their specialty training application. We believe the long term viability of our service lies in the continued success of our members and their positive feedback. We do limit the number of signups each year for each country to avoid diluting the competitive advantage conferred to members.
